Mom Wants Answers After Daughter Is Left At Wrong Bus Stop

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - A Ft. Lauderdale mother wants answers from the Broward school district over a terrifying bus mix-up.

Nyketta Harvard says last Thursday when she went to pick up her 5-year-old daughter, Shakira, up at her school bus stop, the little girl was no where to be found.  She was frantic for more than an hour.

"I called the school, they did not have answers for me.  Another bus driver picked her up from the side of the road and took her back to school," said Harvard.

Harvard believes her daughter, who attends kindergarten at Croissant Park Elementary, was put on the wrong bus and then left at the wrong stop.

"It's traumatizing to not know where a five year old was," said Harvard. "Now she's scared to ride the bus. She had a nightmare last Saturday."

Harvard kept her daughter out of school last Friday and Monday.

She returned on Tuesday and there was no problem with the bus. But Harvard still wants answers.

"I want a full blown investigation into why my baby was left on the side of the road like trash," said Harvard.

Harvard called lawyer Cam Justice who said school rules were not followed.

"With regard to a child under seven, they have to be delivered to a parent or sibling to make sure something terrible doesn't happen," explained Justice.

Justice has sent a letter to the school asking for a full accounting on what went wrong.  The district has two months to reply.

CBS4's Joan Murray questioned the bus driver who said that the whole thing was recorded on a school bus camera. But she deferred questions to the transportation department.

A spokeswoman for the district said they are questioning the school and driver to get to the bottom of the mix-up.

But so far Harvard says she's gotten "no answers in this blame game."
