Tyrone Moss Denies Taking Shapiro's Money

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The University of Miami – Nevin Shapiro scandal is still in its infancy, but the only named football player to admit to taking money from Shapiro is now recanting and despite an audio recording to the contrary, saying he never talked to Yahoo! Sports.

Former Cane Tyrone Moss told CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald that he never did a story with Yahoo! Sports, which blew the doors open on the alleged scandal centering around former booster Nevin Shapiro.

"I never admitted to receiving $1,000 from anyone," Moss told the Herald. "I've never taken no phone call from anyone. I have not talked to anyone directly. I don't know how this story got out about me, but it was a shame that I wake up and see all this negative publicity about me."

The Herald reported that Yahoo! Sports' managing editor Gerry Ahern allowed the Herald to hear the audio taped interview and Moss did admit to taking money in the clip. In addition, Moss alleged that Shapiro was the front-man of Axcess Sports Agency to try to bring in UM players to the business.

Moss said he hasn't been contacted by the NCAA or the University of Miami over the allegations or the investigation.
