Hollywood Police Arrest Last Suspect In Broadwalk Attacks

HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) – Hollywood police have arrested the final person they believe was responsible for a series of violent robberies on the beachside Broadwalk earlier this year.

Samuel Howard, 19, was arrested Tuesday and charged with robbery, aggravated battery and probation violation.

According to his arrest report, Howard, along with 18-year old Zackary Gonzalez, attacked Paul Spates on the Broadwalk on April 10th. Howard and Gonzalez reportedly punched, kicked and beat Spates in the head and torso, even after he fell to the ground. They then stole a chain from around his neck which held a house key and a watch worth about $19, according to police.

The attack was captured by a security camera at Mamacita's restaurant.

Nearly two weeks after the attack, the video was shown to Gonzalez's former girlfriend and her mother who confirmed it was him. Two other people also came forward and identified Gonzalez as one of the people in the video.

Gonzalez and 17-year old Alejandro (Alex) Balais, who was a suspect in another attack on the Broadwalk, turned themselves into police on April 25th.

Police said a reference Gonzalez made during a jail house phone call led them to Howard.   While being questioned, police said Howard confessed.

Also charged in Broadwalk attacks and one along Hollywood Boulevard are 17-year old John Wakula, 19-year old Alejandro Perez and 19-year old Jason Noval. All are from Hollywood.
