Teen Shot, Killed In Boynton Beach
BOYNTON BEACH (CBS4) – The body of a teen, who police sources say may be from Miramar, died from a gunshot wound to his back after being found in Boynton Beach early Tuesday morning.
It was initially believed by investigators that he was from Coral Gables since a Coral Gables High School ID was found on his body.
Investigators say his two companions initially claimed that he was robbed and shot. But they say the juveniles changed their story and admitted that they had stolen a BMW during the night in Coconut Creek and had driven to Boynton Beach with their handgun to rob people.
According to the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office, 15-year old Gian Davis had been behind the wheel of the BMW driving through the Heron Pointe apartments around 7:30 a.m. when he was accidentally shot by another teen in the back seat.
"The person in the back seat was doing something with the firearm and it went off, penetrating through the back of the driver's seat and struck the driver," said sheriff's spokesman Deputy Eric Davis.
"They could face felony charges," said Deputy Davis. "The felony murder rule, they came here to commit crimes, they came here to commit robbery and now as a result, a death resulted in what they were doing."
Investigators said the two teens who were in the car dragged Davis' body to the front of the complex's entrance, sheriff's deputies found the boy on the ground when they arrived.
Neighbors said they were concerned after hearing what had happened.
"It's scary, I want to keep may family safe and with all this stuff going on, you always have that little feeling inside you know that something could always happen, so it does make you a little nervous," said Matthew Piambino.
The sheriff's department has not released the names of the other two teens. They are 16 and 14 years old.
"I'm just glad that they are off the street," said Deputy Davis. "It is unfortunate that someone in this situation died. But at least there is not a robber running around here."
A police source said detectives had learned that the 15-year-old boy had been known to run away from his home in the past. Detectives were not able to initially get a lot of information from Davis's mother.
They are also trying to get a search warrant to go through the BMW because they believe the gun is still inside it.
