Police: Woman Stole 5 Puppies From Miami Pet Store

MIAMI (CBS4) - A pet store owner is asking for the public's help in finding a women who stole five puppies from his store.

The woman was caught on surveillance cameras window shopping in front of Bird Road Puppies on SW 67th and Bird Road. The owner of the store says she entered the store and while the other employees were busy with other customers, she opened several cages and put four Chihuahuas in her purse and carried out a Shih-Tzu.

"A woman; fifty years old; well dressed; none is going to pay her any attention. No one is going to think that she's going to steal five dogs," said the store's owner, who did not want to be identified.

Neighbors in the same shopping complex are stunned. Able Abella owns the computer store couple doors down.

"I found it pretty ridiculous. Because she gets out of the car, skirt, looks like your average grandmother basically," said Abella.

The owner says this is the third time Bird Road Puppies has been hit. In 2008, someone stole puppies out of his employee's car. Then in 2009, someone broke into the back of the building and stole more than 20 puppies.

"This is why we are doing all this for the animals," the owner said. "So that it doesn't happen to another person."

The puppies were worth more than 4 thousand dollars. Neighbors are now trying to convince the pet store owner to install cameras. But the owner has not made a decision yet.

If you have any information call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
