Miami Employees Union Table Vote On Mayoral Recall Effort

MIAMI (CBS4) – The union representing Miami city employees have decided to table its vote on whether to join an effort to recall Mayor Tomas Regalado. It's not known whether or not they'll reschedule the vote.

Last week unionized members of the city's police force voted to spearhead a recall effort while the city's fire union decided to table their vote in order to get more legal information.

Relations between the mayor and the unions have soured over the last few years. In 2009, police and firefighters agreed to wage and benefit concessions. Last year, the Mayor and city commission unilaterally imposed more cuts. Union officials are upset that the mayor is once again seeking union concessions to avoid increasing property taxes in the city which is facing a $61 million deficit for the next fiscal year.

Regalado said the concessions are needed to get the city's fiscal house in order and create jobs without raising taxes.
