Shakira, FC Barcelona Unite For S. Fla. Children

MIAMI (CBS4) – Shakira isn't only a pop superstar, she's founder of the Barefoot Foundation, an international organization geared towards the promotion of education.

Monday afternoon, Shakira was in Miami, along with the FC Barcelona Foundation to announce a major investment in educational programs to Miami's Hispanic community.

As part of that agreement, one of their projects will benefit local kids in Miami-Dade County at the YMCA of Greater Miami.

For Luis Contreras, who loves soccer and Shakira, it's an experience he won't forget.

"Just getting to meet all the celebrities, all the stars from Barcelona the champions of the league; it's going to be pretty amazing. I'm really excited," Contreras said.

Contreras had quite a lot to say about Shakira and how thankful he was for the effort.

"She's beautiful, she's an amazing singer, she's really pretty," Contreras said. "I'm really amazed. I'm very happy they're going to come and help us."

FC Barcelona is the in the midst of a pre-season charity tour across the U.S. Shakira also happens to be dating FC Barcelona's soccer star Gerard Pique.

Shakira, along with Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Commissioner Steve Bovo, FC Barcelona Foundation vice-president Ramon Pont and YMCA of Greater Miami Board Chairman Brian Mormille were at Monday's announcement.
