MIAMI GARDENS (CBS4) – Miami Gardens police are searching for the men they said shot and killed a driver, which caused his SUV to nearly crash into a home.

Investigators said the driver was shot near on NE 2nd Ave. The jeep then drove over a chain link fence and stopped just short of crashing into the wall of a home.

“There was some type of chase between this vehicle that we have at the scene and another vehicle where at this point they arrived at this corner,” said Capt. Ralph Suarez of Miami Gardens Police Department. “The occupants of the other vehicle started shooting at the driver and the passenger in this vehicle.”

Suarez said investigators were unsure of the motive behind the shooting and could not tell if this was a case of road rage.

Neighbors in the normally quiet community were stunned.

“That’s scary you think your neighborhood is safe,” said Helene Baquet, a neighbor. “But it doesn’t look like its safe now. I don’t know what’s going on here.”

One man who did not want to be identified told CBS 4 News that he was outside when the gunfire erupted.

“I hear three bangs, bang, bang, bang,” he said. “Then I saw a white car just driving so fast just speed off up the street.”

He said he called 911 and the operator told him to go and check on the driver of the Jeep.

“I saw the airbag exploded and the passenger you know his head was hanging down and blood was on him,” said the man.

Another neighbor said she saw the passenger of the Jeep running up and down the street, distraught.

“He was just frantic, brings tears to my eyes,” she said. “He was just crying, somebody shot my friend or my cousin, call 911. He went ballistic.”

Investigators questioned that passenger for several hours after the incident. They are also searching for two men who were in a white Grand Prix GT. If you know anything, investigators want you to call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
