Mourning Faces 2 Citations After Accident

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Former Miami Heat star Alonzo Mourning has been cited for leaving the scene of a crash with property damage and failure to leave information in the accident involving him and 20-year-old William Candelario.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Mourning was driving west on State Road 112 when Candelario was involved in a separate accident. FHP said Mourning's Porsche Panamera S ran into Candelario's car on the rear driver's side.

FHP said Mourning got out of his car and checked on the well-being of both Candelario and the other driver involved in the first accident. After that, Mourning got back into his car and left the scene of the accident.

Mourning called FHP to report the accident and was told to return to the accident scene. Mourning drove back to the scene and gave a statement to the trooper on the scene. FHP said alcohol was not a contributing factor to the crash.

While FHP has finished off the report, Mourning is being sued by Candelario for his part in the crash. Candelario doesn't remember the crash, and simply remembers driving around South Beach.

"I barely remember getting home that night," Candelario said. "But we never entered a club. We never entered a bar. We never had any kind of alcoholic drink."

Candelario is suing for "information" and damages.

"It's unfortunate," Mourning told CBS4. "I've been very cooperative with authorities and from my understanding, no one was hurt; and I'm looking forward to a positive conclusion with all this. I think it's an unfortunate situation that it has gotten to this point."
