Dogs, Cats Killed In Oakland Park Condo Fire

OAKLAND PARK (CBS4) – Investigators are leaning towards arson as the cause of an early morning fire in an Oakland Park condo which killed several pets.

Oakland Park Fire spokesman Chief Donald Widing said just after 2 a.m. they received a call about smoke coming from unit 1305 of the Pines of Oakland Forest in the 2700 block of South Oakland Forest Drive.

Two dogs, two cats and bird were killed in the fire. A third cat survived. Widing said evidence inside the condo has led investigators to believe they are dealing with a case of arson. The fire caused approximately $80,000 to $100,000 in damages.

The state's Fire Marshall's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have joined the investigation.

A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered for information on the person, or persons, responsible. Anyone with information is asked to call (877) 622-7766.
