HALLANDALE BEACH (CBS4) – There is a conference focusing on the mind, body and spirit of ethnic women in South Florida.

The 3rd National Black Women’s Health and Beauty Conference offers an educational seminars and tools to help empower ethnic women.

Miami Gardens Mayor Shirley Gibson was the keynote speaker. She shared a story about her mother and her battle with cancer and the importance of women being educated and paying attention to their health.

Discussion topics at the conference rage from sessions about medical myths, to financial independence to learning about how to live a better, healthier life.

One lecturer He brought his 13-year-old daughter to the event hoping she will begin learning at the early age.

“I think exposure is key and the correct exposure. Having her see the role models and confident women that attend this conference,” said North Carolina Plastic Surgeon Dr. Edward Dickerson.

The event is being held at the Westin Diplomat and will continue through Saturday, July 23.
