Former S. Fla. Lawmaker Accused Of Being A Tax Cheat

ORLANDO (CBS4) — Former South Florida senator Muriel Amanda Dawson was arrested Wednesday on federal tax evasion charges.

Dawson, 54, formerly a resident of Broward County, was taken into custody at her home in Daytona Beach and was scheduled to go before a federal court judge in Orlando for her initial court appearance.

Dawson is charged with tax evasion for tax years 2004 and 2005, and failure to file tax returns for tax years 2006, 2007, and 2008.

Dawson was a Florida state senator representing sections of Broward and Palm Beach counties. She left office in 2008 due to term limits.

If convicted, she faces a maximum 8 years in prison for all five counts.

Mandy Dawson accused of being a tax cheat. It’s almost too easy. How many public employees and elected officials have been accused of a crime in South Florida in the last six months to a year. I’ll bet EVEN Channel 4 has lost count.
