MIAMI GARDENS (CBS4) – South Floridians were ready to rock 80’s style and be a part of movie history on Monday.

There was an open casting call for the movie “Rock of Ages” which has been filming around South Florida for the past few months.

Producers of the film were looking for a few thousand extras to take part in a concert scene. Those who showed up at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens were put onto school buses and taken to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood.

The extras will play the crowd in a scene involving  Tom Cruise’s character, rocker Stacee Jaxx, who rocks the crowd with his version of Bon Jovi’s ‘Wanted: Dead or Alive’ and Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.

The concert scene also includes performances by co-stars Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta.

The rest of the cast includes Alec Baldwin, Brian Cranston, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Russell Brand.

Extras, 16 or older, were asked to dress the part, with big 80s hair, makeup and all-black outfits.

Now if seeing Tom Cruise wasn’t enough, movie makers also gave away prizes on the set every half hour.

The “Rock of Ages” movie is based on the Broadway musical and will continue to be filmed in various locations around South Florida through August.

It’s scheduled to open in theaters in June 2012.
