Police: Burglars Target Hebrew Academy In Miami Beach

MIAMI BEACH - (CBSMiami.com) -Three men and two juveniles were arrested after police say they broke into a school in Miami Beach.

Police officers responded to a burglar alarm that went off at about 11 p.m. Sunday at the Hebrew Academy at 2425 Pinetree Drive and said several people began running out of the building once they saw the officers.

In total, police arrested five people and charged them with burglary of an unoccupied structure. One of those men – Salomon Hilu, 18, is a student at Miami Beach Sr. High School.

Hilu appeared before a bond court judge Monday afternoon and told a judge he has lived in Miami for 14 years.

"And first time getting arrested," Hilu told the judge with his head lowered and a soft voice.

The judge allowed him to leave jail and return to his parent's home in Surfside as long as he meets certain conditions set with his pre-trial release.

The two other adult men arrested with him were Nussan Levinski , 20, and Rafael Azari, 18.

The school's headmaster spoke to CBS4's Peter D'Oench and said he could not find anything missing. The alleged burglars broke into the high school area of the school, which is under renovation, the headmaster said.

CBS4 News is not naming the two others arrested because they are juveniles.
