Car Plunges Into SW Dade Canal, 3 Hurt

SW MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) – Three people were seriously injured early Monday morning when the car they were in plunged into canal.

Miami-Dade police spokesman Det. Alvaro Zabaleta said the accident occurred before 6 a.m. at SW 216th Street and 106th Avenue.

The driver reportedly lost control, hit a palm tree and then slammed through a concrete guard rail. As it plummeted into the canal, the car rolled over, coming to rest on its roof.

Two of the car's occupants, both women, were airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, a third person, a man, was taken by ambulance to Jackson South Community Hospital.  A fourth person in the case was treated at the scene.

Police have not released the names of those taken to the hospital or the extent of their injuries.
