Arrest Made In Deadly NW Dade Hit & Run

NW MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) – A Hialeah man has been arrested in connection with a hit and run accident in northwest Miami-Dade last month which claimed man's life.

On Tuesday Jose Castellanos Ricardo, 47, turned himself in to police at the Miami-Dade courthouse and reportedly admitted to being the driver who struck and killed 43-year old Francisco Caro.

Ricardo appeared before a bond court judge Wednesday morning and his bond was set at $10,000.

The accident happened June 25th around 11 p.m. along NW 32nd Avenue.  Caro was riding his bike along NW 32nd Avenue when he was sideswiped by an older model gold Oldsmobile near 83rd Terrace. Caro was thrown from his bike from the force of the impact; he died on the scene before paramedics could arrive.

After the crash, a witness who did not want to be identified in this report, said the driver got out of his car.

"He looked back, I thought he was going to come back, he took a couple of steps, then he stopped, he jumped in his car and took off," said the witness.

Castellanos been charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving a fatality and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage.
