Woman Hits Davie Utility Pole, Trapped By Power Lines

DAVIE (CBSMiami) - A driver whose car hit a utility pole in an early morning accident was forced to wait inside for utility crews to arrive, because firefighters were concerned downed power lines could put the woman and rescue crews at risk.

The driver, whose name was not immediately available, was not seriously hurt in the accident, which happened at S. University Drive and Sterling Road in Davie. Her SUV struck a utility pole, sending cables down onto the pavement around the vehicle.

Firefighters were not sure if the lines were hot, so after making sure the woman was not seriously injured, they contacted FPL crews to check the cables.

After power crews gave the all-clear, firefighters from Davie Fire Rescue moved in, helped her out of the car, and placed her in an ambulance.

The extent of her injuries were not immediately available.

Traffic was blocked for a time in the area until it was determined there was no safety problem.
