Miami To Hire New Police Chief

MIAMI (CBS4) – The ongoing war between Miami Police Chief Miguel Exposito and Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado took another strange twist Friday afternoon.

According to the city of Miami's employee relations website, the city is now hiring for the position of Police Chief. However, nothing has been announced that Exposito is leaving his position.

The job listing reports the job will pay between $136,045 and $181,045 per year. A minimum of 15 years experience is also required of the position.

The listing just appeared on the website Friday evening as government agencies and workers begin the July 4th holiday weekend.

Update: According to Miami City Manager Johnny Martinez, the job listing was part of the Phillips report.

The reason being is that Exposito is scheduled to retire in January 2012 because he's in the DROP program. But, Martinez said he spoke to Exposito Friday and the chief said that January 2012 is not his deadline to retire.
