BSO ID's Oakland Park Hit And Run Victim

OAKLAND PARK (CBS4) - The Broward Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in finding the driver who killed a bicyclist in a hit and run accident in Oakland Park early Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred just after midnight in the 11-hundred block of E Commercial Boulevard; 35-year old Kevin Hamill died before help could arrive. His dismantled body was spotted by Patricia Cohen.

"As I was approaching the RR track, I saw some debris on the road so I slowed down and then passed the debris, there was a body laying lifeless on the ground. No moving, no breathing, bicycle and body parts away from his body," said Cohen.

The driver, who fled, leaving Hamill on the street, left behind a huge clue which investigators are hoping will help them track down the driver.

The collision was so hard it knocked off the car's fender. The maroon fender left at the crime scene belongs to a Jaguar that investigators believe is from a 2000 or 2002, four-door, "S" series. The car likely has moderate front-end damage.

A friend of Hamill's said Hamill was in the area because he borrowed a bike earlier in the day and planned to stop at a food kitchen.

CBS4's Ted Scouten was told Hamill didn't have a lot family nearby and moved from place to place. Hamill's final run-in with police was last November when he was cited for riding a bicycle after dark, without a light.

Anyone with information on the deadly accident is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
