MIAMI (CBS4) – Singer Paulina Rubio was charged with disorderly conduct after a run in with Miami police over the weekend.
Saturday afternoon Rubio’s silver Mercedes got into a collision with a white Mitsubishi near the intersection of SW 2nd Avenue and 8th Street. When an officer arrived on the scene Rubio, who lives on Miami Beach, was standing by her car on the busy street. The officer then asked her for her driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance. Rubio got in her car and retrieved her license and registration.
When the officer asked her to step onto the sidewalk for her safety, Rubio reportedly told him she wasn’t getting out of the car and then started making phone calls. According to the police report, the officer repeatedly asked Rubio to step out of her car and she repeatedly refused. The report states that she grew more agitated and started screaming at the officer that “I just had an accident and I’m very nervous. That’s why people don’t like you, because all of you Miami police are abusive.”
A second officer arrived and tried to calm Rubio down to no avail; she still refused to get out of her car. When the officer told her if she didn’t get out of the car she would be charged with refusing to obey an order, the report states that Rubio replied “You are going to regret this. I’m going to call attorney.”
She was then arrested and placed in handcuffs. As she was being led to a police car, the report states that Rubio screamed to onlookers “Help! Help! I didn’t do anything. Look what they are doing. Help! Abusers! You bunch of liars. Help!”
After about an hour, the report states that Rubio calmed down. She was then charged with refusing to obey an order, obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct. She was released on an order to appear in court.
Rubio was launched in international stardom with her 2000 album “Paulina”.
