"Grenade" Found Near Lockhart Stadium
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami.com) – Event-goers at Lockhart Stadium Monday morning came across a lot more than they bargained for when what looked like a grenade was discovered in the parking lot.
"This is strange there would be a grenade in the parking lot," said soccer player Brian Artuez.
Ft. Lauderdale police cordoned off the area around the egg shaped object, located near the west side of the stadium between the baseball field and Lockhart Stadium, and the bomb squad responded and sent out a robot to pick up the grenade.
"They blocked the street and the members who were in the locker room were ordered out because they said there's a grenade," said Striker soccer team coach Ricardo Lopez.
When the grenade was picked up, there was no explosion, so police decided to take a closer look. After a quick examination they discovered that it was a spinning firework made to look like a grenade.
Everyone was able to return to their events shortly before 10:30 a.m.
