Armed & Hooded Robber Holds Up Miami Beach Store

MIAMI BEACH(CBS4) - Miami Beach Police are looking for an armed robber who held up a Miami Beach convenience store last week.

Miami Beach Police Det. Juan Sanchez says the man was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and brandished a handgun when he entered the Quick Mart at 2050 71st Street on June 17.

Once inside the store , the suspect stated in broken English, "give me all the money in the register or I'll shoot"

Police say the clerk tried to fight back, but when the suspect continued to point the gun at him, the clerk jumped over the counter and ran from the store.

The suspect then broke into the register, taking roughly $300.

Medardo Rodriguez says his brother was the clerk behind the counter and feared for his life when the armed man came in.

Rodriguez said he plans to install additional security cameras, but he hopes the video the police released will be enough to help them catch the robber.  He has a picture from the surveillance video posted near the cash register.

"If you know the person and you see that, you'll recognize the guy," said Rodriguez

He hopes police find the robber before someone gets hurt.

"I hope they get this guy out of the street because he's a very dangerous person. He may kill somebody or kill an innocent person or get killed himself, " Rodriguez added.

Anyone with information on the suspect is urged to call the Miami Beach Police Department at (305) 673-7900 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
