Lauderhill Man Drowned In Ft. Myers College Campus Lake

FORT MYERS (CBS4) – A Lauderhill man who attended college in Ft. Myers drowned after going for an early morning swim in a campus lake.

Witnesses said 21-year old Joel Johnson, a student at Florida Gulf Coast University, became distressed while swimming to a "swim trampoline" near the lake's shoreline around 1 a.m. Thursday. He went under and never resurfaced.

Members of the San Carlos Fire Department found Johnson's body about two hours later.

Officials say the death appears to be accidental.
