Defense Expert: Autopsy On Caylee Anthony ‘Shoddy’

ORLANDO (CBS4)- A renowned forensic expert said the autopsy done on 2-year-old Caylee Anthony was “shoddy.”

Dr. Werner Spitz gave testimony Saturday in the trial of Casey Anthony, the Florida mother charged with murder in Caylee’s death.

Spitz has been an expert witness in several high-profile cases, including that of O.J. Simpson. He said it was a failure that Caylee’s head was not opened during the official autopsy. Spitz conducted a second autopsy afterward.
The defense entered its third day calling witnesses in the murder trial of Casey Anthony.

Testimony resumed Saturday morning after jurors heard from just one witness on Friday, a bug expert the defense called to challenge findings made by the prosecution’s expert.

Forensic entomologist Timothy Huntington testified that the stain on the carpet of Anthony’s trunk did not resemble human decomposition stains he’s previously seen. He also said that the stench from the trunk came from a bag of trash and was not the decaying body of toddler Caylee Anthony, as the prosecution contends.

Casey Anthony has pleaded not guilty. The defense said the girl drowned in her grandparents’ swimming pool. The prosecution contends that Caylee was suffocated by duct tape placed over her nose and mouth.

Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in Caylee’s summer 2008 death. Her skeletal remains were discovered in a wooded area near her grandparents’ home that December

The court adjourned Saturday afternoon. The case will resume Monday morning.

Third day for the defense, third spanking by the defense against the prosecution. At least the defense is consistent at beating down the prosecution each and every day. Is that justice for Caylee?

Circumstantial evidence, should not be allowed, it does cause reasonable dout, therefore not guilty. If the have real proof she did do this ok not this circumstantial chit, she is already guilty in the public and jurers eyes do to the media that the prosacuters released so far, A FAIR TRIAL? No way can it be Fair. Show me the proof and I’ll give her the drugs to end her life, and the state won’t have to pay me.

Dr. Spitz has 56 yrs. of experience but unfortunately he seemed confused at times, kept on saying Casey instead of Caylee and at times he seemed not to remember much. If I were in the jury I would not be taking his testimony too seriously.

    I hope not.

Prosecution still has a chance to rebut that testimony at the end. Good thing. :)
