Redland Homeowner Gears Up For A Pot Bellied Pig Fight

REDLAND (CBS4) -  A woman in Redland has received a fine for her pet pigs and county officials say she'll continue to rack them up until she agrees to let the animals go.

Marcia Fuste has been fined $500 by Miami-Dade County Code Enforcement for three pot belly pigs that live on her one-acre farm.

The three pigs named Sophia, Chongi and Jibiri have lived on Fueste's property for more than a year-and-a-half.

"They're amazing," said Fuste.  "They make you laugh and they're so loveable."

But the 53-year-old farm owner said the county has told her to get rid of the pigs.

"It blew my mind, I cried and cried," said Fuste. I begged the man and said, 'Please, please, these are my babies.'"

But according to Miami-Dade County, it's against code for the pigs to live on Fuste's property because her land is zoned for agriculture.  Now she is fighting to keep and continue loving her three pet pot belly pigs.

"They're pets and they're like dogs," said Fuste. "It's like having a dog with a different personality and different little body."

Fueste says she'll do anything to keep the animals.  The county says she'll need to request a public hearing and ask for a special exception to keep the pigs, although Fuste says she can't afford the legal fees to win the fight.
