Hyundai Gets Kids Excited For School With Free Backpacks

MIAMI (CBS4)--School's out for the summer but Hyundai Motors is making sure students in South Florida are ready for next year!

The automaker has teamed up with the National Alliance to Nurture the Aged and the Youth (NANAY) and on Wednesday, they handed out 1,000 backpacks to students from low-income families throughout North Miami.

Hyundai Motors' Walter Rodriguez explains that "when organizations want to support education they do scholarships and fundraisers but they forget the small things, a backpack, school supplies a water bottle."

"When we can provide that to a child it's one less thing they have to worry about and have a good time, go to school, and be able to learn," said Rodriguez.

Krystal Martinez plans to put her brand new back pack to good use.

"My favorite subject is mathematics so probably when I do my math homework I'll put it in my book bag," she said.

A new backpack seems to be just the way for kids to start the school year on a positive note.

Since its' in founding in 1994, NANAY has been helping the youth and elderly in our community. Aside from distributing backpacks, NANAY works year round to provide after-school programs and other services that help keep kids on track.
