Robaina Denies Deal With Luther Campbell For Endorsement

MIAMI (CBS4) - The mayor's race in Miami-Dade County has taken an interesting turn with some questions raised about Luther Campbell's endorsement of candidate Julio Robaina.

Tuesday night Robaina finally speaking to CBS4 News about questions over whether he made a deal with former rap-star turned mayoral candidate Luther Campbell to get his endorsement.

In an interview with the Miami New Times Campbell said Robaina promised a top level job to civic activist and friend Pierre Rutledge.

According to Campbell, mayoral candidate Carlos Gimenez refused to promise a job for Pierre Rutledge and he went on to quote Robaina in the video interview as "coming through."

CBS 4 News asked Robaina if he cut a deal with Campbell in exchange for an endorsement.

"Absolutely not," said Julio Robaina.  "I have been very clear from the get go that my administration is going to be inclusive and have representation from all aspects of this community."

Tuesday night voters expressed concern over the controversy at a forum where both mayoral candidates answer questions.

"I think that the average person is very much concerned about this," said Mary Williams who lives in Miami.

The state attorney's office is investigating this matter after an ethics complaint was filed.  Officials say it's unclear when a report will be released surrounding the issue.
