Good 4 You: Tots Battle Odds To Graduate From Preschool

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - Graduation is always a special time, but for certain kids who some thought would never make it, it means the world.

At the Ann Storck Center in Fort Lauderdale, rehearsal for their preschool graduation is very important.

CBS4's cameras were there as the kids rehearsed their songs for the big day in front of their families.

Nathaniel was among the kids graduating from preschool from the center where trained professionals build independence in children who have disabilities. He spent four years at the school after a surgery for congestive heart disease left him with a spinal cord injury.

"He is brand new little boy. He is happy all the time. Happy to come here every day," said Rose Augustin, Nathaniel's mother to CBS4's Jorge Estevez.

Nathaniel, 5, has not just survived; he has made it to his preschool graduation where he promised he would walk down the aisle with help from a special walker.

When the graduation march began, Nathaniel not only walked down the aisle, he kissed his mother on the way down.

Before the ceremony was over, Nathaniel won the award for most determination.

"He gives me hope. He is the one who keeps me going every day," said Augustin.

If you would like to help the Ann Storck Center, a 75 dollar donation will help a child go to school for an entire day.
