LAUDERDHILL (CBSMiami.com) – Lauderhill Police have identified the teenager who was found dead in the doorway of his home Thursday morning.

Lauderhill Police said the teen was 19-year-old Ian Owen Atkinson.

Lauderhill police spokesman Captain Rick Rocco said Atkinson’s body was found by his boy’s uncle who had gone to the home in the 7100 block of Sienna Ridge Lane to have coffee with the boy’s mother.

The teen’s mother told police she had been sleeping and didn’t hear a gunshot. She said she woke up when police knocked on her door.

Police on Thursday couldn’t determine if the shot was self-inflicted or not, but Friday, Lauderhill Police said the fatal gunshot wound is the result of homicide.

If you have any information on the shooting, call Broward Crimestoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
