Tumor Removed From Jose "Pepe" Diaz's Brain Is Benign

MIAMI (CBS4) - Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz received good news as he continues to recover from brain surgery; the tumor removed during the procedure is benign.

The District 12 commissioner's pathology results were made public on Monday.

Two weeks ago, Diaz went under the knife at Baptist Hospital after Diaz complained of sever headaches and his doctor discovered the tumor.

While the results were favorable, Diaz's doctor, Dr. Sergio Gonzalez-Arias advised him to not resume a full workload for the next six to seven weeks to allow his body to fully heal.

In a statement released by his office Monday, Diaz said : "I am thankful to God and relieved that I have been given a clean bill of health from my doctor after what has been a very trying time for me and my family," said Commissioner Diaz. "However, my gratitude goes out to all of my colleagues, County employees, residents, hospital staff, and media for their well wishes after the surgery. The residents of my district should know that they can still contact my office for assistance and I will be back in full swing soon."
