Miami-Dade Public Schools Celebrate White Hot Heat Day

MIAMI (CBS4)-The Miami Heat is in the house at Biscayne Gardens Elementary School. That’s because it’s White Hot Heat Day at all Miami-Dade County Schools and the kids are pumped.

Thursday was designated White Hot Heat Day by Miami-Dade County Public Schools. All students, teachers and administrators were encouraged to wear white to support the Heat during the 2011 NBA Finals.

The Miami HEAT Dancers, Burnie the mascot and the Xtreme Team entertained students from Biscayne Gardens Elementary at 560 N.W. 151st Street Thursday morning during a pep rally. Biscayne Gardens was selected district wide for this rally that has left student with a Miami Heat experience they will never forget.

The rally was held to reward the students for a productive school year and to support the team as they look to defeat the Dallas Mavericks and win their second championship in franchise history.

“It’s great because we don’t get this kind of stuff everyday,” Kaurage Ferguson of the 2nd grade said.

Ralph Leon of the Miami Heat said the team also owes their success to the community.

“If it wasn’t for our community, our fans, you know we would be where we are at today,” he said.

And today the Heat gave thanks to some of their youngest fans.

Maria LaKavalla, principal at Biscayne Gardens Elementary, said the students deserve this reward.

“It’s a great thing, a great opportunity for these boys and girls,” LaKavalla said. “They really are well deserving of it, as well as my staff.”

In addition, the Heat encourages all South Florida fans to show their support of the team by wearing white throughout the day and into the night, whether attending Game 2 of the NBA Finals at AmericanAirlines Arena or watching the game at home with friends.

LOL. Great school system you have there. Hey kids, forget learning, we have a bunch of overpaid jocks to worship! Aren’t you glad your parents’ tax dollars are supporting this?!

These kids are going to turn into the thugs. How come they are not doing anything educational in schools anymore? By having these students wear all white it will really help them in the future.
