Hallendale PD: New Clues Emerging In Disappearance Of Lynda Meier
HALLANDALE BEACH (CBS4) - Nearly one year after the baffling and disturbing disappearance of a Hallandale Beach woman, the police chief in this city says there is mounting evidence against two persons of interest and he feels his department is close to cracking this case.
Lynda Meier was 40 years old when she was last seen early on the morning of June 4th of 2010. She was seen on fuzzy surveillance tape leaving her beachside condominium. A surveillance camera captured her taking cash from an ATM.
Her Cadillac Escalade was last seen going westbound on Hallandale Beach Boulevard from U.S. One. The vehicle was found abandoned a week later in Opa-Locka.
"It is a very important case to the Hallandale Beach Police department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement," said Police Chief Dwayne Flournoy.
Flournoy told CBS4's Peter D'Oench that "We pretty much have put the puzzle together. We just need a few more pieces and this is where we need the public's help in putting those pieces together."
Flournoy said detectives do not believe that Meier is alive.
Although no charges have been filed, Flournoy points to two persons of interest: Antown Kennedy and Dallas King. Meier had been Kennedy's mentor when she worked with youngsters in a program in Overtown. The Chief says they had been romantically involved.
"Kennedy had a conversation with Linda Meier and he was the last person to be in communication with Linda Meier," said Flournoy.
Dallas King is now serving a life sentence for violating his probation after committing an armed robbery, records show. At last report, Kennedy was living in Miramar.
"We know that Dallas King had possession of credit cards and other property belonging to Linda Meier," said Flournoy. King had told police that the credit cards were given to him by Kennedy.
Surveillance tape from a Walmart store in Miami showed two women shopping with smiles on their faces who police say were caught using Meier's credit cards. Those women, Suzanne Panchoo and Jessica Morales, were not arrested and charged in this case and they are not suspects in the disappearance of Meier.
Lynda Meier's mother Phyllis told D'Oench by telephone that she supported the efforts by police. She said she missed her daughter and and dearly hope that there would be some new developments.
"I'm just worried for my daughter," Phyllis Meier told CBS4 during an in interview in June of 2010. "I can't believe that something like this could happen. I feel like a part of me is gone. I am desperate to find her."
