Cheesecake Factory Will Open In Pines

PEMBROKE PINES (CBS4)-- Local restaurant owners in a South Florida neighborhood have lost their battle to prevent The Cheesecake Factory from opening in their shopping center.

Citing possible traffic and parking problems, representatives from several restaurants in the Shops of Pembroke Gardens tried to block The Cheesecake Factory still under construction, from getting city permission for a valet station outside its doors. The restaurant owners claimed the valet station would cause major traffic problems in the upscale shopping and dining mall due to limited parking spaces and no plans to add any additional spots.

However, David Frank, administrative services director for Pembroke Pines, said the city wanted the place packed with customers all along and that the design of the center, off Pines Boulevard just east of I-75, invites bustling crowds.

The Cheesecake Factory is scheduled to open in August. The Cheesecake Factory agreed to provide Pembroke Pines with quarterly reports on the valet service during the first year of operation and promised to fix any problems that occur. The service will be monitored by the city for the following full year.
