MIAMI (CBS4) – A former Miami police officer who pleaded guilty to extortion charges has been sentenced to six months in federal prison.

Prosecutors say in 2010 Charley Braynen, a 14 year veteran of the police force, used his position to provide an associate with a variety of illegal services, including providing a false police traffic accident report to be used in filing a false insurance claim.

According to undercover FBI probe, he also provided protection to the same individual who was reportedly receiving a shipment of stolen electronics including iPhones. Braynen was paid with variety of merchandise including a number of iPhones.

Following the completion of his prison sentence, Braynen will serve six months of home detention. Braynen was also ordered to pay $3,000 and he will forfeit the payments he received for providing illegal services.
