Phillies Top Marlins, 6-4

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The Philadelphia Phillies came to Sun Life Stadium Monday night looking to push their lead over the Marlins to three games in the NL East. The Marlins were happy to oblige by throwing starting pitcher Javier Vazquez at the Phillies.

Vazquez lasted only 4.1 innings and allowed nine hits, six runs, five of those were earned. His ERA rose to 6.88.

"I wish I had an explanation, but I got nothing," he said. "Just frustrating, embarrassed with the way I'm throwing."

The Marlins had been playing well through the month of April, but have struggled through the first week of May. The Marlins have lost four of their last five games and have struggled at the plate, most notably Hanley Ramirez.

The lone bright spot in the last few games for the Marlins has been first baseman Gaby Sanchez. He was chosen NL player of the week before the game and proceeded to drive in three runs with his fifth homer of the season and a double.

Still, despite being a battle of the top two teams in the NL East; the forever fair weather fans in South Florida didn't turn out. The crowd of 11,444 was the smallest crowd to watch the Phillies this season.
