Angry Mother Drops Kids Off At Ft. Lauderdale Fire Station

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) – Detectives are calling it an unusual case and can not recall an incident like this in recent history.

Police say an upset mother who had just had a fight with her husband dropped off two of her children at Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue headquarters at around 4 p.m.

She apparently told her husband what she had done because he responded to station number two at 528 N.W. 2nd Street and found his two-year-old son and one-year-old daughter.

The Department of Children and Families was called but the father was allowed to leave the station with both of his children. Neither he nor his wife are being identified.

Detective Travis Mandell told CBS4’s Peter D’Oench that possible charges are pending.

“The mother and father had an argument,” said Mandell. “And she decided to drop off the children. Our number one main concern is the welfare of the children. We want to make sure that they’re alright. Once we can be certain that they are alright, we can move forward with our investigation.”

The father declined to talk as he placed his two children inside a car that was driven away from the Fire rescue headquarters.

Florida’s Safe haven law only allows for newborn infants to be legally dropped off at fire stations.

I went to NY this past weekend and everyone was just so nice..A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THE NEW YORKERS…THINKING ABOUT MOVING THERE…Miami serious concerns me why is everyone here so mad at something. I am sorry for what ever reason your mad. life is too short. Folks in NY if you even look lost they will ask do you need help. So much nicer, crossing the street with your kid and it may take a little longer..No acting like they want to run over you are blowing the horn or drive up on the side walk to go around you .thanks NY for making my stay in your town real…There is good & bad in every City. But I saw was everyone getting along.. hard working people.. no mad people all in one huge place…like it is in South Miami…what did I do to you ? my 2 year old baby did nothing to you as I stopped in my car to let a old lady to cross the street someone spit at my babies window right where My baby was setting in his car seat..Your lucky his window was up….if his window was down and you spit on my baby…you would be looking at the backside of some dirt. I am not from here but all you see is that I am white and you think you can run over dumb white people your died wrong. And can get by with this by driving away..You may do this and think your driving away but if your spit comes back positive for aids…joke is on you. DNA gives your address and your work place or home..It’s not nice to spit…DNA never lies. The police came and said that they would have to see the person that spit before trying to do anything.. Where I come from spitting on someone is not a joke.

Dear Lord…talk about some serious rambling.

I don’t know what was going on with her, nut I am glad she dropped them off at the Fire Station. There have been so many murders of kids lately, I am just glad they are OK.

  • LC

At least she dropped them off rather than hurt them.

Hey they did the best thing,,For some reasons folks just love to fight and she did right if she did not want them to see who won the fight..Anyway your kids don’t need to see a good fight…..LC your so right by dropping them off and not hurting them….Some folks thats all they do is fight because they can’t afford anything else that may help them…Some help hurts because everyones trying to run a scam on you or have sex for there part of the work.. Hey I am proud that you did this and not make a mistake…Raising kids is a hard job..It can be serious…I thank God everyday for our healthy baby…Somes just not that lucky. We have to pray for all the parents and there kids too. Sometimes you just have to do things that in your mind tells you that your doing the right thing at the time your doing it….BEING PARENTS IS NOT EASY…..

That’s just the way I like to see kids……”airtight”?

  • mike

Where have I seen this before? Most cases of child abuse will show there were past indications the kids were being abused and authorities neglected to take action. Here we have authorities simply returning these two children to their father without further ado, even though the mother has shown she no longer wants to care for them. God help these babies.
