Trendy New Products For You & Your Pets

MIAMI (CBS4) - We love our furry and feathered friends. More than sixty-two percent of American households have at least one pet - a dog, a cat or even a parakeet.

Today there are some pretty cool new products on the market to keep man's, or woman's, best friend entertained.

"I don't have children so Lille is like a child," said Barbara Babikian.

Lille is one of several pets that Babikian considers her kids. And just like children, Babikian said she tends to spoil them.

"I spend usually about $300-$500 a month," Babikian added.

Pet trend and lifestyle expert Charlotte Reed explains some pet owners don't mind spending a lot on their pets because it's a way of paying them back.

"They're someone who worships and adores you and that's a great feeling. You want to do anything you can," explained Reed.

If you check out online pet stores, or even the brick and mortar ones, in your neighborhood you may be surprised by the variety of products. For example, there are now sound systems designed especially for pets in which sound levels of treble and bass adjusted so they are soothing.

"There are a lot of games that promote spending time with your pet and bringing out his natural instincts. A lot of games where you'll hide a treat which is great for intelligence and great for bringing out foraging instincts," said Reed.

This type game will also get older pets up and moving which helps fight obesity.

There's even an iPhone app called 'cat toy' designed for the feline set.

Tired of throwing your cash into kitty litter? No you can try to potty train your kitty.

"There's a tray very similar to the surface of the litter box, so he'll jump on the seat and you'll gradually move the tray away," said Reed.

Not all the products are for your pets.  Several new products on the market help you eliminate stains and hair shedding in the home.  There's even a furniture line called Slobproof that claims to be impervious to stains and spills.
