County Helps Miami's Red Cross To Go Green

MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) - Miami-Dade County's Grants to Green Nonprofits program kicks off Thursday with the delivery and installation of a new air conditioning system at the American Red Cross building in Little Havana.

The program partners the county with Florida Power & Light to provide one million dollars in funding for energy-efficient upgrades to 55 community nonprofit facilities.

The nonprofits have been selected to receive energy upgrades at no cost to them. The improvements are based on the recommendations of free FPL Business Energy Evaluations; the evaluations showed businesses key tools to manage energy use.

Funding for the program was made possible by a $12.5 million grant which the county was awarded in 2009 through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program, which is funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
