Restrictions Placed On Everglades Rec Area In North Broward

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - South Florida's dry conditions and low water levels in parts of the Everglades have prompted wildlife officials to place restrictions on some recreation areas in parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties.

On Tuesday the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) announced that the use of motor vehicles, motorcycles, airboats and campfires were prohibited in the Rotenberger Wildlife Management Area (WMA), northern portions of the Everglades and Francis S. Taylor WMA due to an increased fire risk.

Vehicles still will be allowed access along several canal levees to access boat ramps used for fishing.

Officials say water levels are extremely low throughout the Everglades. The prohibitions are necessary to reduce possible wildfires started by human activities.
