Slick Thief Walks Laptop Out Of Lauderdale Lakes Store

LAUDERDALE LAKES (CBS4)- Police released a surveillance video in hopes that the public recognizes a man posing as a customer who nonchalantly stole a laptop he was inquiring about.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office the man walked out of the Radio Shack located at 2904 N. State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes at 7:45 p.m. on April 6 carrying a brand new laptop computer he stole from the store.

BSO said the man walked into the store and expressed interest in buying two laptops. But when an employee went to retrieve the second one, he stole the first laptop, an HP Pavilion G6 laptop, from behind the desk.

Customers in the store did not notice the incident, police said. He wasn't wearing a mask or carrying a weapon.

But surveillance video shows two employees behind the counter assisting two customers. That's when the man grabbed the computer from behind a desk and left the store, seemingly without a care.

Broward deputies typically see robbers in stores with masks and guns.

"This guy looked like any other customer,  but he didn't realize that surveillance cameras were watching and we're going to catch him," said Broward Sheriff's Office spokesperson Dani Moschella.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect is asked to contact BSO Detective Kevin Nitsch at (954) 497-1646 or report information anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 493-TIPS (8477) or online at www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
