McDonalds Holds Super-Sized Hiring Blitz

Local Hiring Effort Part of National Initiative to Hire Up to 50,000 McDonalds Restaurant Managers and Crew

MIAMI (CBS4) — McDonalds is holding a super-sized hiring blitz on Tuesday. The company is trying to fill 50-thousand positions nationwide, including 375 new crew and restaurant management positions at its Miami-Dade and Broward area restaurants.

The new positions will include a combination of seasonal, full-time and part-time positions. About 800 McDonalds in the state employ more than 43,000 Floridians.  Those who filled out applications at the McDonalds at 2200 NW 36th Street in Miami were hoping that they would walk away with a new job.

“I think it would be something better for me, right now I am currently unemployed and it beats being on the streets doing nothing with yourself,” said Tito Miller.  ”If I do get hired, I’ll really appreciate it.”

The burger chain is also eager to change the perception of the term “McJobs” which might be a tall order for a word that even the Oxford English Dictionary defines as “an unstimulating, low-paid job with few prospects.”

The company says its jobs teach important skills and that many of its executives started as crew members. McDonald’s, based in Oak Brook, Ill., says franchisees will set wages but most pay around $8.30, more than the $7.25-an-hour federal minimum.

Miller said with the job market like it is these days, he’ll be lucky if he lands a job.

“I’ve got family members who have been working at Mercy Hospital for years then they got laid off,” said Miller.  “It’s crazy.”

Those interested in this one day only opportunity can apply on-line at, or in person at their local McDonald’s.
