Fire Crews Battle Debris Fires At Parkland Recyling Plant

CORAL SPRINGS (CBS4) - It was a long night for firefighters in Parkland as they battled a massive debris fire at a recycling plant.

Coral Springs Fire spokesman Mike Moser said they got word of the fire, which involved massive mounds of mulch and wood spread, around 6 p.m. Saturday. When firefighters arrived they found three separate debris piles on fire at the facility, near the Palm Beach/Broward line.

Fire crews from Margate, Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach, Tamarac and Palm Beach County assisted Coral Springs firefighters in battling the acres of flames for more than 16 hours. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue also assisted by performing water drops.

By 9 p.m. Sunday, Moser said firefighters had contained much of the fire, however, there was still some smoldering.

Moser said no homes were in danger and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
