Sheriff's Deputy Forced To Fire On Pit Bull

LAUDERDALE LAKES (CBS4) - A Broward Sheriff's deputy was forced to shoot a Pit bull after it reportedly charged him in front of a Lauderdale Lakes home.

According to department spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion the deputy was sent to the 37 hundred block of NW 27th Street after someone called to complain about dogs running loose in the neighborhood.

When the deputy arrived, he noticed the gate to the yard in front of one of the homes was open. He managed to get two of the three Pit bulls back into the yard.

Concepcion said the third Pit bull, however, charged at the deputy who was forced to draw his gun and fire. Animal Control arrived on the scene and took the dog to the Hollywood Animal Hospital where it is expected to survive.

The owner of the dogs, who was not home at the time of the shooting, may be cited for allowing the dogs to run loose.
