Elderly Woman Beaten, Robbed Speaks Out

POMPANO BEACH (CBS4) - A Pompano Beach woman who was beaten and robbed in her own home is speaking out about the horrible ordeal and has a message for the man who attacked her.

"What would you get out of beating an old woman, just get your pieces of jewelry and go. No he had to beat me up," said 88-year old Pearl Patrinos. "He was enjoying beating me up, that's for sure, why would you beat up an old lady, he did a number on me."

Patrinos said it happened Tuesday when she heard a knock the door of her apartment in the 800 block of NE 33rd Street. When she opened the door to see who it was, Patrinos said a man forced his way inside and then began hitting her.

"He slammed the door open and he charged in. The most frightening thing I've seen was this man," said Patrinos. "He was yelling at me not to scream, that he would kill me, I just kept looking at his eyes, he had pitch black eyes. He said he was going to kill me if I screamed, so I did scream, really."

Patrinos said she was punched in the face, in the arms, in the torso - everywhere.

"(I was) frightened out of my wits, I tell you because I figured I was going to die. I thought he was going to kill me because he said so many times and finally he said 'Where's your jewelry, where's your jewelry'."

She said it was in the bedroom.

"We went in there and I showed him my jewelry. I had some nice crosses," said Patrinos.

Patrinos said the man got away with some jewelry and three dollars from her purse.

"Something like this, it's beyond belief and it's beyond something rational. She's fragile and she's never hurt anybody in her life," said Michele Swetman, Patrinos' daughter.

One of Patrinos' neighbors told police she thinks the man was trying to get into any apartment, he even rang her door bell but she didn't answer it. Elizabeth Alvarado, who lives two doors down from Patrinos, said she heard someone at her door but she told her husband not to answer it. When she looked through her kitchen window, the man took off. She believes it was the same man who attacked Patrinos minutes later.

Patrinos had a message for the man who attacked her.

"You may have a mother. I hope you have a mother. I hope that someday in your life, you will remember what you did to me, an old woman, and I hope you never do it to your mother."

Anyone with information about the attack and robbery is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
