FEMA: Fla. Nuclear Plant Emergency Exercise A Success

TALLAHASSEE (CBS4)- The Federal Emergency Management Agency has given Florida high marks for a nuclear power plant emergency exercise conducted in South Florida.

The state Division of Emergency Management conducted the exercise on Feb. 23 with Florida Power & Light Co. at the utility's Turkey Point nuclear plant in Biscayne Bay.

State officials said Friday that a FEMA draft evaluation showed no deficiencies or need for corrective actions.

The objective was to assess the level of state and local preparedness in responding to a simulated radiation leak.
