Video Captures Band Of Burglars Targeting Medley Businesses
MEDLEY (CBS4) — Medley police need your help finding a group of brazen burglars who recently targeted two businesses in under 90 minutes and they may be behind other burglaries in surrounding cities.
And the owner of one business says he is saddened and perplexed. “I don’t see the reason for this happening,” said Joel Barrero, the owner of Miami Rope and Chain, a marine construction business that he has operated for nine years.
“I don’t know what inspired them,” Barrero told CBS4’s Peter D’Oench. “We are a small business. All this was a surprise to me.”
The brief crime spree took place around 10:00 p.m. on Monday March 7th and the crimes at Miami Rope and Chain at 7531 NW 72nd Ave. was caught on surveillance video.
Video from outside of the business shows two burglars and at least two others in getaway cars: one was a light colored Dodge Magnum; and the other was a dark colored mini-van.
One burglar had on a shirt with the word “Triton.” The crook used a crow bar for 13 minutes as he hacked away at the door. He would duck out of sight as cars drove by on NW 72nd Avenue.
Finally, the suspects got inside.
One suspect has braided hair, the other has dreadlocks pulled in to a poneytail down his back. Police say they are very organized.
“We have two guys who know what they’re doing. They’re in and out as quickly as possible, they’ve got surveillance, people in the background looking out for them as well, meaning they have two cars watching, whenever someone shows up, they’re hiding and ducking, they’ve got an earpiece,” explained Medley officer Natalie Buissereth. “We believe these guys have done this before. This isn’t their first time.”
“They are very organized,” said Buissereth. “You can see by the video that when the cars go by, he ducks, hides and turns around.”
While they spent a long time trying to get inside the business, the burglars spent only 3 minutes inside Miami Rope and Chain. They took cash and checks totaling more than a thousand dollars.
“Well I think anyone who was victimized like this would be upset if something like this happened to them,” said Barrero. “You wake up every morning and all you can think about is that you have been robbed.”
“We absolutely would like to get them off the streets and behind bars where they belong,” said officer Buissereth.
“It would mean a lot to me and the citizens of Miami if we get them off the street,” said Barrero.
Police say the burglars also took cooper wiring from a nearby business, Mercedes Electric Supply at 8550 NW South River Drive. They were in and out of that business within five minutes.
