Broward Deputies Shoot, Kill Armed Suspect

TAMARAC (CBS4) – An armed suspect was shot and killed Tuesday night in Tamarac after he pulled a weapon on law enforcement officers in Broward County.

Authorities say the shooting happened about 8:45 p.m. at a location near Nob Hill Road and McNab Road.

Federal Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) were involved in an undercover operation with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Metro Broward Drug Task Force.

According to BSO, several suspects arrived at the location and met with undercover deputies. One of the suspects, who was wearing a bullet proof vest, pulled a handgun. Deputies shot the suspect.

The suspect was transported to Broward General Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.

Five other people were detained after the shooting.

No deputies or ATF agents were hurt.

The shooting is under investigation by ATF and the BSO Homicide, Crime Scene and Internal Affairs units. The deputies involved in the shooting were automatically placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure after a deputy-involved shooting.
