Shooting, Fire Keep Ft. Lauderdale Fire Rescue Busy

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - It was a busy Sunday morning for several Ft. Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews as they responded to calls about a shooting and a fire which came in about five minutes apart.

Fire rescue spokesman Matt Little said at 5:09 a.m. they received a call about a double shooting in the 21-hundred block of NW 19th Street. When rescue workers arrived they found two injured men. Both were taken to Broward General Medical Center where one of the men was rushed into surgery;  the other man had 'non-life threatening' injuries, according to Little.

At 5:14 a.m., Little said they received a call concerning a fire in a home in the 29-hundred block of NW 9th Terrace. Arriving firefighters spotted smoke pouring out of the residence's roof and found the fire burning in a laundry room. Firefighters were able to contain it to the one room and put it out; there was moderate smoke damage to the rest of the home. One person who was home at the time of the fire was able to escape unharmed. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
