Getting Home Insurance May Be A Beach If You Live Near One

TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) – Homeowners with beachfront property may be unhappy to learn that lawmakers are proposing a bill that will forbid the state's insurance company from writing policies in certain coastal areas.

Citizens Property Insurance policy limitations are being proposed from two surprising positions – from both conservative tea party voices and from those who are environmentally-friendly, according to the News Service of Florida.

Conservatives such as Sen. Alan Hays, R-Umatilla, and members of the tea party are joining environmentalists in backing the bill.

The proposal backers include Hays, Manley Fuller, president of the Florida Wildlife Federation, Charles Pattison of 1000 Friends of Florida, Abigail MacIver of Americans for Prosperity, and Scott Osteen of the Tallahassee Tea Party.

The coalition said that by limiting where Citizens can write policies they could effectively address the state's property insurance woes.
