MIAMI (CBS4) – A new study shows the key to a healthy, long relationship might just be in *how* your significant other was raised. It turns out marrying a so-called mama’s boy might be the best way to a happy ending.

A great wedding day can involve so many factors, but a successful marriage may come down to the way each person was raised.

“You have good times and sometimes you have bad times. The good times outweigh the bad times,” said one man along Miracle Mile in Coral Gables as he walked with his wife in hand.

A new study, published in Psychological Science, claims the secret to a successful relationship has everything to do with the relationship each member had with their main caregiver which in most cases their mother.

“When a woman has brought up her son well, he is kind to her. I think he makes better relationships,” said one woman to CBS4’s Jorge Estevez.

The study showed a couple where one person had a good relationship with the main caregiver has a 75% chance of survival, while if both people had a rocky relationship with their caregiver has a 22% chance of survival.

So for women, marrying a mama’s boy, as it is often referred to, may lead to a nurturing and patient husband. Sometimes couples can learn from the examples set by their parents and want to change the pattern.

“They were not lovey, dovey and I am lovey, dovey to him,” said one woman about her relationship with her husband, referring to how different she wants to be from her parents.

In the end, it seems the “I dos” come with a lot of understanding regardless of your relationship with your mother.
